From April 22 to 25 the Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco 2008 was held where lot of people gathered together to discuss the future of Web and the related technologies that will drive its growth.
Web2.0 is actually a marketing term it and was supposedly coined by Dale Dougherty during a meeting between O’Reilly and Associates (a computer book publisher) and MediaLive International (an event organizer) as a marketable term for a series of conferences. However this term gained huge popularity as a way to describe the evolution of the web. Times are changing though Yahoo, one of the major players in the Web 2.0 space, stands on the brink of being acquired by Microsoft, there are daily launches of cool web2.0 startups which struggle to gain traction and ad revenue and whose best bet remains in getting acquired by bigger cos like Google and so this juncture becomes important to determine the evolution of the web.
There are many interesting insights that came out of the conference about the current and future of Web CNET demonstrates the evolution and future of Web in this pic shown above meanwhile Rohit Bhargava of influential marketing comes to describe how the 7 basic needs that are driving Web2.0 Search, Discover, Connect, Protect, Publish, Organize, Share which is an interesting article and lastly Readwriteweb does a great job of defining the key insights from the conference and how the key to monetizing Web2.0's success lies in going out and marketing the product.
