Ebay India has released a new report containing some interesting insights about Indian ecommerce market.
  • India's top five eCommerce hubs are Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai.
  •  Over 2,427 cities had online transactions 
  • USB drive registered the maximum sales on eBay. Value mobile handsets,MP4 players, USB MP3 players and diamonds were the other popular items
  • The IT hubs of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were the most wired states of India with the maximum number of towns where eCommerce originates
The key here is to note that low value transactions are predominant and these items are mostly personal gadgets and jewellery which appeal to the young internet using population of India.Again it also shows that ecommerce is directly related to the growth of IT destinations in India.City wise some interesting facts are:
  • Hyderabadis bought the maximum number of movie VCDs and DVDs — ranging from Telugu, Hindi love stories to international comedies
  • Bangaloreans bought maximum number of car care products
  • Andhraites led the race for USB drives.
  • Delhites are health conscious and bought the maximum number of fitness equipments.
