This week saw the launch of Star Plus 's Shahrukh khan hosted "Kya Aap Panchvi pass se tej ho " which is based on the international Mark Burnett format ‘Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader’, where school level questions are put to adults from all walks of life. What is more impressive is the guerrilla marketing put in to promote this show wherein young men were hired to plonk the paper cups shown in the picture on to the cars stuck at Mumbai traffic signals. Now these paper cups seem like they would fall off once you start to move so nobody is likely to remove them however once you start moving you actually are shocked by the fact that these cups don't fall and the reason is that it is attached to the car by magnet at the bottom of the cup and by now the customer is hooked to this thing and goes on to read the message which says ‘Magnets Stick to Iron’, below which is the note ‘Std V, Science’ and also a message there informing that India’s Biggest Show ‘starts tonight at 8 pm’. This is damn cool and innovative and definitely shows how guerrilla Marketing can send the message across at really low cost. You can find how it happened to a user by reading Harshil's version to whom I also owe this picture.
