Indiagames has developed a report on state of mobile gaming based on their insider data

  • Currently valued the industry at $29 million and expect it to grow to $250 million by 2010.
  • Average Mobile game download price on GSM is Rs 35.5 (US$ 0.89) as compared to CDMA's INR 22.25(US$ 0.56).
  • Maximum number of mobile games download take place between 1 pm to 5pm and 7pm to 11 pm.
  • Top 10 games comprise of Cricket, Hollywood and action based games.
  • 40 % of all mobile gamers belong to 22-35 years of age, followed by 13-21 yrs and 35+ (each 25%) and most of them are male.
  • Airtel has the largest share in games followed by Vodafone and Reliance Communications.
  • GSM has market share of 70% as far as no of downloads is concerned, and 79% for revenue split.
  • Gujarat is the top GSM circle followed by Mumbai and Karnataka.
This actually seems to point to couple of things such as the scope for Bollywood in this industry and the fact that couples of top 10 titles were actually mobile version of PC games only like Brian Lara. This is actually an interesting industry but as the Indiagames point out the growth is actually dependent on proliferation of GPRS enabled phones and this current growth was driven by operators offering free GPRS access so I am skeptic about immediate growth as projected by Indiagames but let us wait and watch as to how this progresses
